Survival and Reproduction seem to be the most basic traits of any animal and it is not wrong to say Humans are also bound by the same principles. After all, we consider ourselves the most intelligent animals on earth.

One thing in addition to survival and reproduction that we find most common across races and creeds is megalomania and the innate necessity to prove ourselves to others.

Be it racial supremacy, gender dominance, caste inequality, religious extremism, or intellectual oppression, one thing common is the need for evaluation. To prove that what I am is superior to what you are.

Have you ever cringed at your grandma’s inability to use a smartphone? Ever felt the urge to correct someone on the internet asking silly questions and showing your command of the subject being discussed? Ever seen your neighbor’s lawn and felt glad your lawn looks cleaner/greener?

The thirst to establish the need for superiority is seen in a 6-year-old shushing his younger brother and telling him how to do a certain thing. He knows he is better. He knows he is superior and he has to assert dominance and show off his talent.

Why?

Why the need to compare?

Why the need to prove we are better?
